Godfrey Tan, CEO & Co-Founder
Dr. Godfrey Tan (a) Wai Lin Tun is Co-Founder, Executive Chairman and CEO of Frontiir. Godfrey focuses on vision and strategies for Frontiir while driving the execution of strategic initiatives. Frontiir’s co-founders and most core-team members are good friends of Godfrey. He had known each for more than a decade and holds them in highest regards. Godfrey was born and raised in Yangon and finished high school from Dagon 1. He graduated with B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science with Highest Honors from UC Berkeley. In addition he holds S.M. and Ph.D. degrees in EECS from MIT. His doctoral thesis is about improving aggregate user throughput and providing fairness in multi-rate Wifi networks. He had published more than a dozen papers in wireless networking, cloud computing and business intelligence and holds US patents in the area of networking. Prior to Frontiir’s founding Godfrey spent 7 years at Intel holding various roles as senior product strategist, program manager and lead architect. In his most recent role as senior product strategist, Godfrey was responsible for all facets of a number of Intel Cloud Services Platform products and drove the strategies and execution of those products from planning and development to beta launch. He also managed the Intel AppUp Developer Program for a year and spent several years as lead architects for the Intel data centers resource management initiative and business intelligence programs for silicon design computing. The successful execution of these strategic initiatives helped Intel save tens of millions of dollars in capital expense and improve business agility since 2007. For his contributions, he received many awards at Intel including the prestigious Intel Achievement Award. Godfrey also worked as a software developer at Echelon and interned at HP Labs and Mazu Networks.
Allen Miu, CTO & Co-Founder
Dr. Allen Miu is a co-founder of Frontiir and serves as Chief Technology Officer. Before founding Frontiir, Allen served seven years as a Wireless System Architect and Principal Engineer at Ruckus Wireless, Inc., a newly listed company on NYSE with over USD$1.6 Billion capitalization. Allen initially help developed Ruckus’s 802.11n Enterprise and IPTV platforms and later became the chief architect and lead developer behind Ruckus SmartMesh, a WiFi-based self-forming, self-healing multi-hop directional wireless networking system. SmartMesh has been deployed to support a wide variety of applications such as Mobile Data offload, Wireless DSL, Hotspots, Hotzones, Femtocell and Picocell backhauling. Allen works tirelessly with carrier customers worldwide to help plan, troubleshoot and optimize their wireless deployments. The three most notable SmartMesh deployments include: 1) Tikona Digital Networks: the largest mesh-enabled deployment in the world with over 40,000 nodes to provide internet access to homes in over 12 major cities throughout India, 2) O2/Telefonica: successfully launched prior to the London 2012 Olympics to provide Hotspot services and mobile data offload in London’s major shopping and tourist districts, 3) Towerstream: owns and operates 1000+ mesh-enabled access points covering New York, San Francisco and Chicago to provide outdoor internet access. After his successful tenure at Ruckus, Allen is excited to serve Frontiir in his new role to help fulfill the company’s mission of delivering affordable and innovative digital solutions to local schools, businesses and the common people of Myanmar. Allen has lived in Hong Kong, Vancouver, San Francisco, and Boston, and has just added Yangon to his list. Dr. Allen Miu holds a B.Sc. in EECS with Highest Honors from UC Berkeley, and S.M. and PhD degrees in CS from MIT. He has published over 10 conference papers and articles and holds five US patents on wireless local area networks and mobile location systems.
Minn Thein, VP & Co-Founder
Minn Thein is a co-founder of Frontiir and serves as VP of Engineering. Minn brings 14 years of consulting, building and leading globally distributed IT engineering teams delivering highly complex enterprise business solutions to multi-national corporations and governments. Prior to joining Frontiir, Minn was a Senior Director at Avanade where Minn had built and led high-performing product engineering teams in the area of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) products for Avanade Software and Cloud Services (SCS) organization. Prior to SCS, Minn worked as a senior developer and architect for Avanade Connected Architecture (ACA.NET) where he designed and built enterprise software development platform. Minn holds BSEE from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a technology patent in the area of SOA architecture.
Michelle Winn, VP
Michelle Winn serves Frontiir as VP of Business Development and Production. Prior to joining Frontiir, Michelle managed merchandise planning at Coach International, partnering with distributors in Australia, Latin America, Middle East and Southeast Asia. Her focus was in developing product strategies to facilitate accelerated growth in emerging markets, as well as to launch the Coach brand in new countries. Michelle’s experiences in fashion and luxury retail also include overseeing Strategic Planning at MaxMara for North America Retail, maximizing sales and growth via inventory management, brand matrix optimization, accurate sales forecasting and increasing the profit margins. At Christian Dior Couture, Michelle helped manage leather goods and led retail planning. She began her luxury retail career in the highly selective and prestigious retail management program at Louis Vuitton. Before her career in luxury retail industry, Michelle was a successful civil and structural engineer, where she designed and managed projects in residential and commercial land development in Houston, and bridge design works in New York. Michelle holds a B.S.C.E. from Utah State University and an M.B.A. from MIT Sloan School of Management with focus in Strategic Management. She is passionate about philanthropy and giving back to her community.
Tun Tun Myint, GM (Network Services)
Tun Tun Myint leads the Network operation team of Frontiir to design Frontiir’s core IP network and systems infrastructure to implement affordable innovative wireless broadband services to Myanmar people. Before joining Frontiir, Tun led the engineering team of a young and innovative fibre broadband ISP in Singapore called MyRepublic in Singapore. Founded less than two years, MyRepublic has established a strong brand in Singapore for its innovative network services and unmatched customer services experience. Tun also contributed to Singapore Infocomm Development Authority’s Technical Standard Committee Working Group 5 drafting Singapore’s IPv6 profile while he was serving as Network Planning Manager at SingTel.
